Italian Design Day: a conversation with Giulio Iacchetti

On the occasion of the Italian Design Day in 100 locations around the world, 100 “ambassadors” of Italian culture (designers, entrepreneurs, journalists, critics, communicators, teachers…) will illustrate how Design in Italy permeates the fields of culture, art and philosophy to such an extent that it constitutes our society’s innate pattern; its novelty combined with the solidity of the traditional handicrafts and with the unprejudiced experimentation gives origin to Italian designers’ personal style.

Hailing from Milan, Italy, Giulio Iacchetti will discuss the masters of Italian design who, thanks to their teaching, provided the designers of his generation with a solid cultural and theoretical framework. In other words, the golden era of Italian design has an immeasurable value of its own because it is still able to educate and inform those who work in this field.

Industrial designer since 1992, Giulio Iacchetti provides his talent to many brands, including Abet Laminati, Alessi, Danese, Elica, Foscarini, Globo Ceramiche, Jannelli&Volpi, Hastens, Magis, Meritalia, Moleskine, Pandora design. The distinctive characteristics of his work is the research and definition of new object typologies, like the Moscardino, the biodegradable spoon/fork designed with Matteo Ragni and for which, in 2001, he has been awarded with Compasso d’Oro.

A solo exhibition entitled “Giulio Iacchetti. Disobedient objects “ was held at the Milan Triennale in 2009. In 2012 Iacchetti launched Internoitaliano, the “factory network” made up of many craftsmen labs with whom he signs and produces furniture and accessories inspired by the italian way of living. In 2014, he won his second Compasso d’Oro for the design of the manhole covers Sfera, designed with Matteo Ragni for Montini.
