Antonello Taurino's Stand-Up Comedy

Antonello Taurino's Stand-Up Comedy

A taste of Italian comedy right here in San Francisco--in Italian! Whether you're looking to immerse yourself in Italian culture or enjoy state of the art stand-up, this is the event for you!

Antonello Taurino is bringing his comedic talent to the IIC in a story about Livorno, Modigliani and "the joke of the century" of the summer of 1984, when three newly found sculptures were mistakenly attributed to Modigliani by some of the most highly regarded art critics.

Be forewarned, due to the fact that stand-up comedy does not typically survive translation, this event will be in Italian, a rare occurrence for the Institute. If you are a native Italian speaker, a student of the language, or are looking for a challenge, this event is a rewarding way to test your skills.

Born in 1980 in Copertino, Antonello Taurino graduated in 2004 with a perfect score in Modern Literature from the University of Lecce. He received a Master's degree specializing in dramatic arts from prestigious schools in Berlin, Moscow and Milan. In 2005 he published for Lupo Editore Li Fatti ti Paese: bozzetti di vita a sud del sud, a collection of theatrical scripts in the vernacular of Salentino. Some of his jokes are in the books Le Cicale 2006 and Le Cicale 2008, by Gino & Michele, Kovalski editor. He has written for the blog S-COOL for since September 2015. In the theater world he has worked with Jurij Alschitz, Gianpiero Borgia, Teatro dei Filodrammatici, and Alessandro Fullin to name a few. Since 2011 he has taught courses on theatrical techniques in schools, construction sites and sports centers, and in 2016 began teaching a course in comic writing at Zelig Cabaret.
