film > PERLASCA: THE COURAGE OF A JUST MAN

Giorgio Perlasca was an Italian businessman and former fascist who, with the collaboration of official diplomats, posed as the Spanish consul general of Hungary in the winter of 1944. During his official appointment as consul general, he saved 5,218 Jews from deportation to Nazi extermination camps in Eastern Europe. Steven Geiger, director at Mensch International Foundation and Rabbi Moshe Heyn will join Consul General of Italy, Sergio Strozzi, and Consul General of Israel, Marco Sermoneta, in a special ceremony acknowledging this lesser-known Italian hero who committed himself to save so many lives.

On this occasion, the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, the Leonardo da Vinci Society SF and the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club (SFIAC) will present the film PERLASCA: THE COURAGE OF A JUST MAN (2002), directed by Alberto Negrin and starring Luca Zingaretti.

Journalist and writer Enrico Deaglio, author of the book that originated the movie, will introduce the film.
