Italian language courses

Italian language courses

The Istituto Italiano di Cultura of San Francisco has entrusted the management of the language and culture courses to a Californian non-profit organization, Istituto Italiano Scuola (IIS).

The mission of the IIS is to offer the highest quality Italian language instruction. The IIS is committed to providing a stimulating learning environment and exposing students to the rich diversity of the Italian culture and tradition.

A Wide Variety of Day and Evening Courses. From elementary to advanced, you will find the widest range of courses in the Bay Area. Each term the school has, on average, 25 regular courses plus several intensive courses from which to choose. Classes are small to maximize personal attention with a minimum of five students and a maximum of twelve. Individual teaching sessions are also available.

Highly Qualified and Experienced Instructors. Instructors are all native Italian speakers and hold degrees from Italian universities. This team of qualified teachers helps to ensure a learning experience that is dynamic and lively, yet structured and effective. The goal is to expose students not only to the Italian language, but also to an entire culture and its complexities and nuances.

Special Workshops. Each term, the school offers fascinating and intimate workshops on different subjects such as Italian film and regional Italian cooking.

A Convenient LocationThe IIS is located inside the Opera Plaza complex, which offers various leisure and cultural opportunities including a cinema, a bookshop, a florist, a restaurant and a café. The location is close to the City Hall and easily reachable from the Civic Centre Bart and Muni station (UN Plaza entrance). Proximity to the IIC also means that students can have access to a variety of cultural events without having to leave the building.

A Wealth of Resources. The IIS is the official language school of the Italian Cultural Institute in San Francisco and its students enjoy half-price membership to the IIC with convenient access to all sorts of essential resources, such as a lending library of books and films on the premises. Members are also invited to frequent art exhibitions, lectures and concerts. Students may benefit from scholarships to study Italian granted by IIC.
