The internships lasts normally three months and take place during four different periods throughout the year.

Who Organizes Them
The internships were established with an agreement between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Diplomatic Institute) and the Conference of Italian Universities Rectors (CRUI), which has so far been joined by 57 Italian universities. From 2001 to 2004 the Ministry received almost 10,000 applications and assigned over 3000 internships.

This Program is aimed at those who wish to come into contact with our Country’s international relations in the arena of politics, economics, socio-cultural, scientific and cooperation for development endeavors. It also affords an opportunity to develop direct and first-hand knowledge of the Ministry’s operations both in Italy and overseas – from a privileged perspective - . Therefore, it is strongly recommended for those who wish to gain supplementary knowledge in view of pursuing a career in the international field either studying “in situ” or complementing and enhancing their academic background.

The Diplomatic Institute of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomatic Institute is in charge of coordinating and managing the Program in conjunction with the CRUI. Specifically, it sets forth its objectives, conditions and contents. It also posts the positions that are currently vacant together with the relevant job description. Furthermore, it promotes and disseminates the Program to the extent possible, selects candidates, provides training courses for the candidates selected who are currently working at the location assigned to them. Finally, it monitors intern programs and the results hitherto achieved.

Information on the procedures and requirements to participate in this Program is available on the website of the Conference of Italian Universities Rectors that also publishes a list of the Italian Universities taking part in the Program. The parties interested should contact their University administration, which, in turn will collect their application and provide the applicant with all relevant details. The Institute of Diplomacy of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also provides information via e-mail at the following address:
