The Summer with Monica Vitti film series celebrates one of the most iconic actresses in Italian cinema. Tracing Monica Vitti’s extraordinary career—from her unforgettable collaborations with Michelangelo Antonioni in the 1960s to her beloved performances in popular comedies with directors such as Mario Monicelli and Luciano Salce—the series presents a selection of recently restored films made possible through restoration efforts supported by Cinecittà.
Organized by Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), in collaboration with Cinecittà and with the support of the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, the initiative offers audiences the rare opportunity to rediscover Vitti’s magnetic screen presence on the big screen.
