CICIS Italian Studies Symposium

Precarietà/Precariousness

The 2014 California Interdisciplinary Consortium for Italian Studies (CICIS) conference presents papers that explore the topic of “precarietà/precariousness,” the feeling of moving towards or away from a sense of greater security as well as the idea of existential fluidity. These notions may include the idea of “passing through” or that of precariousness in society and the working world (perhaps also in relation to Italy’s present economic and social circumstances), as well as the transience of love and emotions or of the written word. Speakers may also consider such additional concepts as the notion of impermanence itself in literature, philosophy, visual arts or other fields.
The symposium will be held on 11 and 12 April at the San Francisco State University (SFSU) Humanities Building, room 133 (ground floor).
