Italo-Disco-Thumbnail-scaled

Alessandro Melazzini’s documentary offers a close look at the Italo Disco movement of the 1980s, which fueled the playlists of FM radio stations and disco DJs for almost 10 years.

In the early 1980s, a new pop sound bursts into the speakers of our radios, a wave of hits with romantic-kitsch accents submerges Europe, and hits invade the playlists of rapidly expanding FM radio stations, often at the top of the charts.

The screening will be followed by a meeting with the director. The evening will close with a DJ session with DJ Nino Musco.

Event open to the public by reservation.

This event is part of FARE CINEMA, a worldwide yearly initiative to promote the Italian film industry.

Alessandro Melazzini tells us the story of this variety of music that was popular in discos in the mid-eighties, between a song by Bronski Beat and a slow song by Scorpions, in his documentary entitled Italo disco, the sparkling sound of the eighties.

More precisely, the director shows us the backrooms of this music industry, how songs like Vamos a la Playa, Dolce Vita by Ryan Paris, or the famous Boys by Sabrina were conceived, how this electronic music made with triple the nothingness became an ultra-playful business for a handful of producers like the La Bionda brothers, who understood the system and the tastes of the public.

A documentary that has the merit of bringing to light the unknown or forgotten characters of this musical phenomenon, of recalling forgotten songs, often not very glorious but always equally effective, and above all of rekindling the nostalgic fiber of all those who were 15 or 20 years old in the 80s.
