Drawings of Selected Opera Costumes from Teatro di San Carlo
Europe’s oldest functioning opera house, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, donated several of its priceless opera costumes to San Francisco’s Academy of Art University in May 2014 as part of the ongoing project of strengthening the bonds between the two cities, exemplified by last year’s joint performance of Verdi’s Requiem by SF Opera and the San Carlo as well as a number of other cultural events.
The costumes were immediately put to good use by AAU students, who made exquisite drawings of each other wearing these historical costumes, jewels and other accessories.
