The year 2024 marked the 450th anniversary of the death of Giorgio Vasari, a multifaceted artist, architect and Renaissance art historian. The city of Arezzo, his native land, is hosting a major commemorative event entitled Vasari. The Theater of Virtues, an exceptional exhibition that brings together more than 100 works from prestigious institutions such as the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Albertina Museum in Vienna and the Musée du Louvre in Paris, as well as national treasures held by the Uffizi Galleries in Florence and other Italian museums.
The exhibition, which will run until Feb 2, 2025, is the culmination of a larger celebratory program entitled Arezzo. The City of Vasari.
The Municipality of Arezzo, in collaboration with the Consulate General of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute of San Francisco, will introduce the exhibition, currently on view in Arezzo at the Galleria d’Arte Contemporanea, on January 8, 2025, 6:30 pm at the Italian Cultural Institute @INNOVIT (710 Sansome St, San Francisco).
The Consul General of Italy, Sergio Strozzi, and the Mayor of Arezzo, Alessandro Ghinelli, will be in attendance.
