THE ETRUSCANS: FROM THE HEART OF ANCIENT ITALY
Legion of Honor Museum
100 34th Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94121
From May 2 to September 20, 2026, the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco presents one of the most anticipated exhibitions of the year: The Etruscans: From the Heart of Ancient Italy, an immersive journey into one of the most fascinating and still least known civilizations of the ancient Mediterranean.
This major exhibition, the most comprehensive in the United States dedicated to Etruscan culture in recent decades, brings together around 200 extraordinary artifacts from leading international museums, including the Vatican’s Gregorian Etruscan Museum, the National Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia, and Palazzo Farnese in Piacenza. Over 150 exquisitely crafted and well-preserved examples of bronze and terracotta sculpture, gold jewelry, ceramics, and architectural features, as well as the longest-surviving piece of Etruscan writing, reveal a legacy that continues to captivate today.
Many of these objects are being shown in the United States for the first time, offering the public a completely new perspective on a civilization that profoundly shaped the development of Western culture. A unique opportunity to rediscover Italy’s deepest roots and better understand the cultural heritage that continues to influence our present.
This exhibition is organized by the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco in association with the San Antonio Museum of Art with support from the Istituto Italiano di Cultura di San Francisco.
